THE QUESTION IT HELPS YOU ASK

Is aggressive trading actually
moving price?

01 / THE CONCEPT

One push.
Several pieces of evidence.

Impulse brings together directional pressure, the price response, movement of traded volume and opposing evidence. A new qualifying event is marked in the context of that reading.

THE DISTINCTION

Several inputs, one contextual reading. Aggressive buying alone does not define an Impulse event. The engine also assesses the response and competing evidence.

Concept illustration. The groups summarize parts of the analysis; they are not an equal-weight checklist or a reproduction of the calculation. No future price path is shown.

A new event is not the same as the start of a move.

Impulse marks the onset of a qualifying reading, with strength and spacing filters. It can occur at different stages of a move. The marker does not tell you in advance whether that move is beginning, continuing or ending.

02 / ON YOUR CHART

A clear marker.
Your interpretation.

Impulse brings a combined order flow reading onto the price chart, with the detail available when you need it.

A combined reading of participation, directional progress and supporting order flow.

Has delta surged beyond its recent norm?

Focuses on aggression standing out relative to its recent context.

Did extreme aggression hold or fade?

04 / THE RIGHT SETUP

Before you add it.

Impulse runs inside ATAS and works independently. You do not need another Footprint Lab indicator to use it.

WHERE IT FITS

Use it to examine the push.

  • Compare buying or selling effort with the movement it achieves.
  • Add evidence around a level or setup you already follow.
  • Read initiative alongside the wider market structure.
KEEP IN MIND

A marker describes a qualifying reading. It does not establish how far price will travel or whether a breakout will hold.

05 / STRAIGHT ANSWERS

A few things
to know.

Need help with your setup?
Ask Footprint Lab

Does a bullish marker mean price will keep rising?
No. It identifies a qualifying reading of the bar and its context. It does not predict the duration or outcome of the move. Treat it as evidence to interpret alongside your own market analysis.
Where can a marker appear within a move?
Impulse marks the onset of a qualifying event, subject to strength and spacing filters. Events can occur at different stages of a move. It does not classify the beginning or end in advance, and it does not require a fixed sequence of rising or falling candles.
Can a signal change before the bar closes?
Yes. Forming-bar previews are enabled by default and can change or disappear before the close. Turn live previews off to display closed-bar-only markers. Changing settings or rebuilding the chart history can recalculate historical readings.
Can I control how many markers I see?
Signal Strength adjusts the display threshold and minimum spacing between markers. You can also change marker style, size, gap and colors. A signal score is not a probability of a winning trade.
Which instruments have automatic presets?
Automatic presets cover NQ/MNQ, ES/MES and CL/MCL/QM. Other instruments use Custom calibration and may need volume-scale adjustment. The chart needs footprint/volume-at-price data at one tick per price level.
How do alerts work?
Alerts are off by default. Once enabled, bar-close timing is the default; an earlier alert is available with forming-bar previews. An early event can change before the close. Historical recalculation does not replay live alerts.
How do I activate Impulse after purchase?
Supply your ATAS account email at checkout. Access is granted to that account, and the included PDF guide walks through setup. Follow the ATAS activation instructions in the documentation.
